Should Christians Celebrate Halloween?
Is it a good idea?

The short answer to this question is a simple “no”. But the short answers to question aren’t usually enough to answer the questions in their entirety. Questions contain more than simple words. Words are powerful. Life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). In addition to words, questions also contain emotions. Emotions are what drive us to ask questions. Let’s explore the answers to this question in more depth.
Emotions contained in the question: Should Christians celebrate Halloween?
Emotion #1: Fear. When you feel fear, you empower evil. Never respond to a question with fear. Instead, respond with wisdom and analysis.
Emotion #2: Feeling left out. Especially in children, this emotion runs high during Halloween time. Are your children strong enough to choose to opt out of Halloween on their own?
Emotion #3: Feeling overwhelmed. Most parents feel overwhelmed during Halloween. But for Christian parents, this feeling of being overwhelmed can be unbearable. Making major decisions when you feel overwhelmed is never a good idea. Get into your quiet place and talk things out with the Holy Spirit when you’re feeling overwhelmed.
Emotion #4: Confusion. Confusion can be an emotion. When children are out participating in Halloween events, and they seem happy, it may bring up the emotion of confusion. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to clear your thoughts and emotions when you feel confusion.
Bad things happen on Halloween. Should I be concerned?
If bad things are happening on Halloween, then, yes, you should be concerned. But which things happening on Halloween are actually bad, and which things happening on Halloween can be sanctified and used for good? Let’s explore this question further.
Halloween carnival games: Yes, these can be sanctified to be used for a holy purpose. We see churches in our communities doing this all the time by offering alternatives to trick-or-treating on October 31st. This is an important thing for churches to do.
Trick-or-Treating: In general, this is difficult thing to sanctify. But with God, nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37). Maybe you have some friends in a neighborhood you trust and you can all get together and pray over the candy you hand out and sanctify your homes and property and declare “no demons allowed. We take back this territory for God. This day belongs to the Holy Ghost and nobody else.” Proceed with caution in regards to trick-or-treating and seek help from the Holy Spirit.
Sacrificing young children to Moloch: Um, no. No. Don’t do it. No.
Do you have any questions for the Holy Spirit about the things that happen on Halloween? Seek His guidance. The Holy Spirit is the helper (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth (John 16:13).
I bless you with the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. ❤️🧡💛
